A Season to be Thankful

 In Events, Facility Dogs, National

Happy Thanksgiving to all! We here at Paws for Purple Hearts hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. This year we have many things to be thankful for including our dogs, Veterans, volunteers and donors.

We are thankful to the wonderful dogs in our program.  Without their willingness to learn and love to give, our program would not be possible. Our Virginia site currently has a total of 9 service dogs in training! Each has their own personality that makes them unique and fun to work with.

We are thankful to the amazing Veterans we have the chance to work with. They have sacrificed so much for us and our freedom. The participation of the Veterans in our program helps our dogs become the well-trained service dogs they are when ready to graduate. This Canine Assisted Warrior Therapy Program we provide is what makes us unique. Our dogs are able to impact many lives before placement. We are also really able to see the progress with the dogs and individuals after working together and building a strong bond.

#pphLeo – Is just a ball of cuddles… He loves being petted and spending time with you!
#pphBuddy – Is full of curiosity and just wants to please you!
#pphMarcie – Is full of personality, always wagging and smiling around the facility!
#pphKatie – Is a sporty girl who enjoys her time in the yard!

#pphElma – Is small but mighty… She holds her own with the bigger dogs!
#pphScout – Is a handsome fellow who likes to think and learn!
#pphTheo – Is full of wiggles and love to give… to anyone!
#pphBuck – Is our gentle giant… bigger than the others but so sweet and loves getting petted!
#pphAutumn – Is a dainty girl but feisty when the time calls!

We are thankful to our volunteers. Our General Volunteers help support our facility maintenance and basic dog care. They work hard to keep the grounds clean and safe. Our Puppy Parents volunteer countless hours to ensure our service dogs in training have a loving, safe home environment to spend time in.

We are thankful to our donors who fund our mission. This helps for us to expand and impact more lives. Our Amazon wishlist has been supported so well in the past weeks and we are grateful. Dog food, toys, treats, and more are all necessary to our program but it does add up in cost after time. It is awesome when we come into the office and these items are donated to us!

After Thanksgiving, is Black Friday and then Cyber Monday…. However have you heard of Giving Tuesday? This is a day for you to give to those organizations you hold dear to your hearts. We hope that Paws for Purple Hearts is one for you. Please consider giving this holiday season to help us provide more therapeutic activities and service dogs to the Veterans who so deserve them! Happy Holidays!
