Paws for Purple Hearts is so honored to have been selected as one of the beneficiaries of the Coalition for Government Procurement’s (CGP) 10th Annual Joseph P. Caggiano Memorial Golf Tournament. The CGP is an association of commercial contractors that advocates for “common sense” in Government procurement, bridging the public and private sector, and they have a long history of supporting our Veterans.

This year’s tournament took place on August 16th at Whiskey Creek Golf Club in Ijamsville, MD. The weather that day was just as beautiful as the location itself. With just enough clouds to provide shade, the tournament’s many participants enjoyed putting the course’s eighteen holes surrounded by trees, mountains, running water, and the stone remnants of an old whiskey distillery.

The charity tournament was held in tribute to the CGP’s dear friend and esteemed colleague, Joe Caggiano. Mr. Caggiano dedicated 23 years to the federal contracting marketplace and served eight years as a Naval officer. His friends and family members at the tournament spoke lovingly of his boundless enthusiasm, dedication to his work and of his support of his fellow Veterans.

During the event, our Service Dog-In-Training, Orion, eagerly greeted attendees and showcased some of his over 100 Service Dog commands. Orion demonstrated commands for mobility aid and trauma-relief such as fixing his leash, retrieving dropped items such as car keys and a credit card, and providing deep, calming pressure by laying on his handler, showcasing the comfort and support he can offer.

It was a picturesque summer day for the tournament and we were moved by the stories of Mr. Caggiano and his life’s work. Paws for Purple Hearts is deeply humbled to have received a total of $11,000 from the Coalition for Government Procurement from this event. The coalition’s generous donation will go a long way towards our programming and the training of our Dogs, such as Orion! We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the CGP’s for their noble mission and their unwavering support of America’s Veterans.
