A Puppy’s Road to Paws for Purple Hearts

 In Facility Dogs, Virginia

Have you ever wondered where all of our amazing dogs come from? Well we are here to share some insight with you and introduce you to some of the newest recruits!

Our service dogs in training come from individual breeders that we have carefully selected due to the temperament and health of the dogs. This past weekend we were lucky enough to receive six puppies from a breeder called Project 2 Heal. This organization breeds specifically for other service dog organizations, such as us, who do not have a set breeding program in place. It is by the generosity of their donors that we received all six pups at no charge to us! We are grateful for this amazing partnership and the wonderful pups that we have received.

The puppies were given the following names by donors: Buddy, Sully and Melik (yellow labs) and Stevie, Kyree, and Leo (red labs). These little fellows come all the way from Project 2 Heal’s facility in Waxhaw, North Carolina. They made a road trip to our Southeast region site in Virginia with two of our Program Instructors. The puppies will begin their journey here, and four of them will travel to our other PPH facilities within the next weeks.

To have more puppies in the program, we need more support from people like you. Puppy Parent volunteers are needed to help provide a safe, loving home environment throughout the pup’s training. All the training required to take one of these adorable puppies home is provided by PPH staff members! Click here for more information about how to volunteer for this great opportunity.

If Puppy Parenting does not sound like the right fit for you, maybe you could consider helping with some of the costs that it takes to raise a pup from puppyhood to placement with a disabled Warrior. We do not charge the recipient of a service dog a penny, and it costs over $30,000 to train each dog. Click here for more information about how to donate. You can follow all six pup’s adventures on our Instagram. A huge thank you to all of our generous volunteers and donors!
